يشير الأستاذ الإمام محمد الطاهر ابن عاشور (رحمه الله) إلى الدور العـلمي العـالمي للغـة العـربية، في كتابه الرائع: (أليس الصبح بقريب – التعليم العربي الإسلامي صفحة 41):

 
ومما تقدم إلى هنا : تعـلم أن العـلوم التي كانت تُـدرّس وتُـدوّن يومئذٍ تنتهي إلى اثنين وثلاثين عـلماً [ تُـدَرّسُ بالعـربيّـة ] هي:

 

التصوف،

العروض،

الفقـه وأصوله،

التاريخ،

الطب،

آداب العـرب ،

البلاغة،

الفـلك ،

المنطـق،

الفـلسـفة،

الهنـدسة،

الحـساب،

الهـيئة،

الجغـرافيا،

الموسـيقى،

عـلم الحيـوان،

الطـبيعة،

الرواية والقصص،

الكلام،

الصيدلة،

الكيمياء،

الفلاحة،

المساحة،

الجبر،

جرّ الأثـقال والتحـرك،

وتـتـبعها عـلـوم تتفرع عـن بعـضها مثل مصطلح الحديث، والجدل، وآداب البحث، ونقـد الشـعـر.

 

The sciences that were taught and recorded at that time end into 32 sciences [all taught in Arabic], namely:
Quran interpretation,

Hadith,

Sirah,

Language,

Grammar,

Sarf (Bayan and linguistic articulation),

Sophism,

Arodh (Poetry and composition),

Fiqh and its principles,

History,

Medicine,

Arab literature,

Balaghah (highest linguistic articulation),

Astronomy,

Logic,

Philosophy,

Engineering,

Mathematics,

Hai’ah (prayers times, location of Qibla direction, start of Ramadan fasting),

Geography,

Music,

Zoology,

Nature (Creation),

Narration/Stories,

Kalam,

Pharmacology,

Chemistry,

Filahah (Botany),

Landscape,

Geometry,

Weights pull & Locomotion;

these are followed by sciences emerging from some of the above, such as:

Hadith Terms, Jadal (Dialogue), Research manners, and Critique of Poetry.
